Carlyle has agreed to acquire a $7.7bn portfolio of unsecured personal loans from Truist, Alternative Credit Investor reported on 16 October. The transaction is led by Carlyle's asset-backed finance team within its Global Credit platform.
The pool consists mostly of fixed-rate, fully amortising loans to prime and super-prime borrowers, per the report. Carlyle said the deal builds on its work on large, complex bank portfolio transactions and strengthens an existing relationship with Truist.
Akhil Bansal, Carlyle partner and head of asset-backed finance, said banks are increasingly turning to private capital to help manage their balance sheets. He said the transaction reflects the platform's scale and specialised underwriting, and Carlyle's conviction in high-quality consumer credit as a core part of the ABF opportunity.
Carlyle's Global Credit platform held approximately $211bn in assets under management as of 30 June 2026. The ABF business invests across private fixed income and asset-backed assets, financing businesses, specialist finance companies and asset owners, and acquiring portfolios of financial assets.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
